This military binocular case is made of Bakelite, the world’s first synthetic plastic, invented in 1907 by chemist Leo Baekeland. Thanks to its exceptional resistance to impact, heat, moisture, and wear, Bakelite was widely used in military applications between the 1930s and 1970s. It was the ideal choice for manufacturing binocular cases, optical components, gas mask containers, and other essential field gear. Today, these items are considered rare collector’s pieces, appreciated for both their historical and aesthetic value.
